Name: Artisanal permits for annual timber cutting

Display Field: num_permis

Type: Feature Layer

Description: This theme indicates the place of artisanal logging harvested by an artisanal logging permit issued by the Provincial Governor to national farmers, approved natural persons or to a group of people originating from the communities bordering on the forest. According to Ministerial Order No. 050 / CAB / MIN / EDD / 01/03 / BLN / 2015 of 25/09/2015 on logging, there are two types of permits: The "first category" or local license allows the holder to operate in the protected forest on a harvestable area not exceeding 50 hectares. It is characterized by the exclusive use of rudimentary tools (machete, ax, long saw, strong shot) or a chainsaw, whose production is limited to the satisfaction of local needs. The "second category" allows an operator or a group of people originating from the communities bordering the forest concerned to operate on a small-scale forestry unit not exceeding 500 hectares. The data from this layer comes from various sources including official attribution documents (favorable opinion, permits etc.), GPS data and satellite imagery. This layer represents the state of the sites of artisanal woodcutting permits Since 2013. This layer does not guarantee the exhaustive presence of all woodcutting permits issued in the DRC. The location of some logging permits may be imprecise for lack of reliable information describing the location of logging. The quality of these data may vary according to the source.
